| Geographical Note: Schleswig-Holstein (a.k.a., Slesvig-Holsten) has been during various periods under Danish or German control; it was ultimately divided between Germany and Denmark. Tøndor Amt was in the Danish part of Slesvig-Holsten and became part of Sonderjyllands Amt (in 1970) and then Region Syddanmark (in 2007). So while Magnus gives a birthplace of "Germany" in his census records, his birthplace is now in Denmark. However, the fact that he spoke German, not Danish, suggests he is most likely an ethnic German. On the other hand, most of the HAUSOs in the LDS database are Norwegian. |
